This is A WORK-IN-PROGRESS :) I think this is just one of those works where I can't stop until I find it good enough but I gave myself a pat on the back already but I think I can fix it up more..... a lot more

Hi. Thanks for your comment on my work. Here are some tips on how you can improve your sense of realism. First off, never leave the white areas of the eye as light as you have. It will make it look flat. You should always add a little shadow to them. Start a bit dark in the corners, and let the shadow become lighter and lighter as it nears the iris of the eye. Also, it looks to me as tho you could add a little more shadow in the darkest areas between the eyes and nose. This will raise the contrast and make the drawing more alive. In addition, the eyelids should be darker, particularly the line which emphazises the eyelids. Make it about as dark as the pencil will allow. If you want to, try and play with lights and shadows on the iris. Try to get three different shadows. The light spots in the eye should also be much brighter. Most times it will be as white as your paper. The nostrils themselves should be darker, whereas the areas right below them should be made a bit brighter. The upper portion of the lips is rendered in just one dark value. This will make it look flat. Try having the lower part of it pretty dark, and dab an eraser on the upper part of the upper lip lightly(get a kneaded eraser if you don't have one) to make it brighter. This will achieve more of a feel of 3d to the portrait. I would also like you to add a bit more shadows to the lower lip. Make the area right below the lower lip darker also. The part of the mouth that's open, right below the teeth, should be as dark as your pencil can manage to make it. The cheeks, where they protrude the most, should be brighter, as this is where light will be most prominent. The parts that descends along the upper lip should also be made a bit brighter, about as bright as the middle of the nose. As for proportions, you seem to mostly have it down. However, the nose looks a bit lopsided(don't know whether it's supposed to be). Anyway, a good trick is to hold your drawing up in front of a mirror. This will make it easier to spot mistakes. Hope I made myself understandable. Try this and if you want, you can get back to me and I will take a look at it again. =)
